dear you,

I have been having a hard time starting this letter for you. All March I have been feeling depleted of energy, burned out even - a result, I think, of a combination of the ruptures and troubles of the world echoing strongly in my body, and the exhaustion from trying to survive in late capitalism by pushing myself. But I really wanted to write you. So I reached out for support. Thus this letter is written in collaboration with snowdrops, assisted by ivy and ravens and the sea air in Havmøllen.

We will share a bit of what is alive and present, give a last nudge to join for the Rooted Allyship course, share the big excitement about holding a workshop in Riga, and some news from plant world and the library.

As always, this is an invitation to make yourself a cup of tea and take your time. And please write back if a string is touched in you. I love hearing from you.

what's alive and present

Last days I have been out in the mornings greeting the sun rising from the sea at Jernhatten. The other day it was cloudy and some part in me was saying its not worth going out as probably I wont be able to see the sun. So I opened the window to at least let in some fresh air and immediately could hear a flock of ravens circling nearby coming closer, flying further in the direction of the sea, coming closer again. I kid you not, they were calling me to come out. The ravens and I have a long-standing friendship and I deeply respect them, so I pulled up the skisuit over my pyjama and out I went. Indeed, I did not see the sun that morning, but the absence of the visual wow gifted a chance of a full embodied experience of how a sunrise feels and sounds. I allowed me to notice how the volume, melodies and flight patterns of birds change as sunrise moment is approaching. The energetic shift in the air. The partnership and collaboration of the elements.

I am thinking a lot about collaboration these days.

Some new collaborations are developing and its like learning to dance together - what tune we can meet in, what combination of rhythms works for our bodies, how to lean in and lean back, paying attention to not step on each other' s toes, and when we inevitably do, refinding the rhythm and shared joy of keeping dancing at a speed of trust.

Some recent ones are very present in the heart. Since I last wrote to you, we finished our “Borderland Forest Spells” residency in Broumov. It was a collaboration among so many beautiful humans, trees, memories, practices…so many gratitudes and reflections about this time and process. I want to share more about this, but its hard to find words. Luckily wonderful Anna from Hoprich residency that hosted our final listening session did find the words, and they are so rich and beautiful and generous. Have a read (its in Czech originally, but even the auto-translation does not take away the magic).

And then there is the ongoing collaboration with the more-than-human world. The plants, hills, waters, stones and all the rest. When I stay true to the practice of leaning into these collaborations, magic happens. Just as it did with this letter. I wrote it using one of my favourite scores - it is inspired by a practice I received from Molly Brown and I have developed many iterations of it since. Here is one of them. Its a 30 min writing practice to get support on something you are stuck in, and if you have worked with me before - you probably already know it, as I absolutely LOVE it. I hope it can serve you too.
