House for Homeless Grief is an immersive installation that explores the grief that has no obvious place in our everyday lives - the grief that comes with loss, crisis, and change, in our personal lives and in the world around us. The installation creates a temporary "house" - a space where this grief is welcome and honoured.

In this house you are invited into a room filled with music, voices, stories, sound, rituals, video, and plants. In the house you can experience a 30 min sound installation and live perormance rituals co-created by different artists. The work premiered in Radar Aarhus in 2025 as part of ROOTED festival, and is open for collaborations and touring.

Background

In times of overlapping crises – climate emergency, wars, social fragmentation – the project responds to the urgent need for cultural spaces where difficult emotions can be expressed and transformed. The project addresses the “homeless grief” of our time, giving voice to the unheard and creating a shared space for recognition and healing. The installation creates a house - both symbolic and physical – that gives shelter to the “homeless grief” of our time. It acknowledges experiences that often remain unspoken in contemporary society: intergenerational trauma, personal and collective losses and the impact and influences these issues can have on our actions and imaginations. By combining song compositions, physical theater, poetic texts, soundscapes, crying choir, performance rituals, and encounters with plants and the more-than-human, the project creates an immersive environment that recognizes grief and potentially transforms it into collective strength and healing.

The project was initiated and led by Katrine Faber and Liene Jurgelāne, with financial support from Aarhus Municipality and production support by Radar who hosted a three-week residency for the initial development of the project.
