#8: Islands

In the June letter, I write from the island of Bornholm, scattered and empty after weeks of intense holding, letting the wide horizons do their work. The letter reflects on the second edition of ROOTED festival and the premiere of House for Homeless Grief - an immersive installation co-woven with Katrine Faber and a constellation of collaborators including a Crying Choir - and sits with what it means to come through something big and not yet be able to hold it whole. I share about the BIRCA residency exploring ritual and performing arts, and the plant listening brings Mary Oliver walking through summer fields. The library opens Elif Shafak's Island of Missing Trees on ancestors, trees, and the lives that don't begin at birth or end at death.
